
Black Warrior
“Black Warrior”, the English translation of the name of the Mississippian chief, Chief Tuskaloosa, is a dedication to Irby’s hometown in Alabama. The song was originally released on his 2006 album, Black Warrior. This arrangement for jazz orchestra, which contains elements of Choctaw rhythms and melodies, was originally performed by The Jazz at Lincoln Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
